EMSNOW spoke with Victor Meijers, Senior Vice President of ECIA/TrustedParts.com, and Elmar Kert, Sluicebox.ai Founder, to explore the details of a recently announced partnership between the two organizations.
This initiative comes in response to pressure from EMS and OEM customers for emissions data in order to meet regulatory requirements and strengthen their appeal to environmentally focused industries. The partnership between TrustedParts.com, the authorized channel for electronic components, and Sluicebox, a generative lifecycle assessment (LCA) platform, provides instant emissions data that is reliable and meaningful.
According to Kert, Sluicebox stands out from other approaches because it is developed and validated directly by component manufacturers. TrustedParts.com, a free resource for buyers, is the natural place to host this data, allowing engineers to make decisions based on carbon impact during the design stage—moving toward a proactively sustainable future. The TrustedParts.com announcement includes a video of the complete discussion.
ECIA component channel members faced pressure from their EMS and OEM customers to provide carbon emissions data so they could both comply with regulations and differentiate themselves with their upstream corporate customers in the automotive and technology markets who are intentionally aligning with environmental protection goals. Sluicebox.ai and ECIA members worked together closely to ensure that this platform provides meaningful carbon emissions data based on the manufacturing processes involved.
Elmar discusses other approaches and the mythology around them and why the Sluicebox.ai platform is stronger because it has been developed and validated by the component manufacturers. TrustedParts.com is a natural place for this data to be available, since this platform is free to component buyers, and having carbon emissions data at the component selection stage enables designers to consider this early in the design process.
The discussion also includes details about the partnership and how EMS companies can influence their customers to gain access. For more information, go to TrustedParts.com.
