TÜV SÜD has demonstrated the practical effectiveness of its new Sustainability Software Evaluation Service by successfully evaluating the generative LCA solution, Sluicebox. This solution is purpose-built for the electronics industry and focuses on end-to-end carbon intelligence, from component to product level. TÜV SÜD confirmed that Sluicebox meets the requirements of the internationally recognised ISO 14040 and ISO 14044 standards for calculation methodology and data quality, offering transparent, traceable data and reliable functionality.

Increasing complexity of sustainability software requirements

Software solutions for product carbon footprinting, life cycle analysis and ESG reporting are becoming indispensable tools in many industries, especially electronics. Regulatory expectations are increasing under frameworks such as the EU Battery Regulation, the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and the Supply Chain Act. Companies must ensure that their digital tools deliver auditable, standards-aligned and verifiable results.

TÜV SÜD’s Sustainability Software Evaluation Service helps address this need by combining classical software testing with sustainability methodology review. This independent audit fosters trust in digital sustainability applications and fosters acceptance among customers, regulators, and supply-chain stakeholders.

Comprehensive evaluation: from user-friendliness to data model

In this evaluation, TÜV SÜD tested Sluicebox, which uses a proprietary Component Carbon Intelligence framework with a generative LCA engine to deliver traceable, component-level carbon visibility across the entire electronics product lifecycle and supply chain. It replaces the previously expensive and time-consuming manual LCA process with a scalable, AI-based model enriched by global component data.

TÜV SÜD's evaluation comprised several test phases. First, the user interface, functionalities, and workflows were analysed based on user manuals and product documentation. Additionally, TÜV SÜD experts evaluated the calculation logic, data models and data quality using complete input and output datasets. Particular attention was paid to data traceability and the transparency of AI-supported decision-making processes, and result reproducibility.

Finally, the software was tested to ensure that users could correctly interpret outputs and apply the calculations, to ensure audit-ready reliability and accuracy of the generated results.

Scalable carbon footprint calculation balances with a high degree of reliability

The TÜV SÜD testing team ensured that Sluicebox is compliant with important ISO 14040/44 requirements and boasts a high level of data integrity. The technology enables electronics manufacturers to quickly and cost-effectively create product and component LCA results, automatically highlighting emission hotspots and generating ready-to-share carbon reports.

In addition to confirming methodological correctness, the TÜV SÜD assessment supports the software's market launch by providing user companies, authorities and auditors with the necessary assurance.

“With our Sustainability Software Evaluation Service, we offer companies the opportunity to have their sustainability software independently evaluated – an important signal of credibility, regulatory compliance and market acceptance,” explains Dr Jonas Johannisson, Sustainability Program Development Manager at TÜV SÜD. “Especially with new technologies such as generative, AI-based LCAs, neutral confirmation by an independent body is a decisive factor for success.”

Sustainability software becomes a strategic differentiator

The evaluation highlights the strategic importance of verifiable LCA solutions for decarbonising global value chains. TÜV SÜD's service offering is specifically designed to meet the growing demand from companies using digital sustainability solutions, particularly in complex industries such as electronics, automotive, and mechanical engineering, where scalable, and traceable calculations are required. Sluicebox provides a solution for traceable insight across the entire supply chain.

TÜV SÜD's Sustainability Software Evaluation Service is available worldwide for all ready-to-use sustainability solutions, regardless of industry, application, or maturity level.
