Vishay, a global leader in complex active and passive semiconductor components, faced challenges collecting primary emissions data and validating its accuracy. The manual LCA process required extensive human intervention, frequently causing errors such as double-counting emissions like Direct Bonded Copper or inconsistent modelling of the same product (e.g. cable generic vs. copper and manufacturing process). These inaccuracies reduced confidence in data and slowed Vishay’s ability to respond quickly to customer requests and identify key emissions hotspots.
By adopting Sluicebox’s Generative LCAs, Vishay automated and greatly accelerated the primary data collection and validation process. Sluicebox incorporates manufacturing processes at a granular level—down to solder paste, flux, and adhesives—delivering high-fidelity insights for complex semiconductor components. Detailed manufacturing inputs were efficiently integrated through AI-driven analysis, systematically flagging potential inaccuracies and errors. This significantly improved data reliability and consistency, allowing Vishay to quickly pinpoint emissions hotspots. For example, the component “Pin Pressfit” was rapidly identified as a critical raw material hotspot, contributing on average 61% of the raw materials phase emissions across assessed products.
